A Step Forward: Phase 2 Planning Underway
Last month, we shared that Housing Lopez was beginning to explore what Phase 2 of Village North could look like and how we might continue expanding access to stable, affordable housing on Lopez Island.
We’re excited to share an important step forward in that process.
Housing Lopez has been awarded a $50,000 grant through the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Capital Project Capacity Grants for Non-Profit Organizations. This funding will support the early feasibility work needed to thoughtfully plan for our next phase of development. We are deeply grateful to the Department of Commerce and the funders behind this program for recognizing the importance of investing not just in buildings, but in the planning and groundwork that make those projects possible.
This grant is specifically designed to help nonprofits like ours move through the early stages of capital projects, covering essential work like feasibility analysis, design, and pre-construction planning.
With this support, we’ll begin taking a closer look at what’s possible for Phase 2—exploring site options, understanding costs, and identifying the best path forward to serve our island community.
While this is just the beginning of a longer journey, it’s a meaningful one. This funding helps us build the foundation needed to bring more housing to Lopez in the years ahead.
As we begin this next phase, we’re also thinking about what it means to build this with our neighbors.
With you!
If you’ve been following this work and wondering how to be part of what comes next, we invite you to stay connected, and, if you’re able, to consider making an early contribution to support Phase 2 planning and development. Every step forward is made possible by this community and we look forward to sharing more as this work unfolds.
With gratitude,
The Housing Lopez Team
