Robert (Rip) Van Camp

Robert (Rip) Van Camp, Former Co-Chair, and CurrentAdvisor to the Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Fundraising, Project Management and Site Acquisition Committees, has more than 45 years of experience in management, strategic planning, business development and marketing for major international, national and regional corporations. He formed his own consulting firm in 1986 after working as president and chief development officer for R.J. Reynolds Development Corporation. Prior to that he managed major operating and marketing divisions for The Gillette Company, Boyle Midway Corporation, a subsidiary of American Home Products, and Colgate Palmolive Corporation.


He was the Chair of LOHO (Lopez Housing Options, a 501c3 non-profit organization.) He is the founder of the Hamlet, which is owned by LOHO. The Hamlet is the only senior living complex on Lopez Island. It consists of 21 total rental units, including 14 duplex cottages units for seniors age 55+. Half of the units are designated as affordable under the San Juan County bonus density requirements and the other half are market rate. The cost to build this project was $5.5 million. Seventy-two residents have been served in the cottages and the Adult Family Home in its 10 years of operation. All of the units and rooms are fully occupied with a current waiting list of 28.


Rip also served on the board of the Lopez Community Center as Vice-Chair of the Board, the Lopez Community Scholarship Foundation (LICSF) and the Catherine Washburn Investment Committee.


Rip has been a resident of Lopez island for more than 30 years. He recently relocated to New Mexico but will remain an active advisor/committee member.
