Laying Strong Foundations for Lopez’s Future – Village North Update
Housing Lopez has been on an exciting journey with the Village North project, making strides toward bringing affordable housing to our community. After securing the building permit in July, we wasted no time breaking ground on the first 15 units of phase one. With foundations being laid and utility trenches being dug, the project is well underway.

But like any journey worth taking, we’ve faced our share of challenges. During excavation, we encountered an unexpected obstacle—tree roots that ran deeper than anticipated. This forced us to dig even deeper for the foundations. Though this initially felt like a setback, it turned into an opportunity. The extra depth required higher foundations, but it also allowed us to distribute additional clean fill to benefit the community.
Our commitment to stewardship has been central throughout this process. Trees were given to Lopezians for personal use, surplus dirt found a new home at the Chamber of Commerce’s play area and the Lopez Airport, and vegetation was repurposed at Midnight Farm’s soil division.
Thanks to the collective efforts of our team and partners, the Village North project continues to push forward. We are grateful to you for all your support and excited to share this journey with you towards a more sustainable, community-focused future.
