A Milestone Worth Celebrating
Congratulations to the Lopez Food Center!
After six years of planning, listening, refining, fundraising, and working alongside the community, the Lopez Food Center has received its building permit and is preparing to break ground on Weeks Road with Faber Construction. This is an extraordinary accomplishment and one that belongs to the entire community.
We are honored to call the Lopez Food Center our partner and congratulate everyone who helped bring this vision to life.
Rooted & Rising
Housing Lopez and the Lopez Food Center have shared a common vision from the beginning.
Together, through the Rooted & Rising campaign, our community raised more than $5.7 million in local support. Those investments helped unlock additional state and federal funding, making it possible for both organizations to build lasting community assets side by side in the heart of Lopez Village.
Today, those shared dreams are becoming reality.
Village North Phase 1 is now home to fifteen affordable rental homes, including two ADA-accessible residences. Seniors, working families, people with disabilities, and neighbors who were struggling to remain on Lopez now have stable housing in the community they love.
Just as importantly, these homes are serving the people they were intended to serve: members of our existing Lopez community. Village North was designed to help island residents remain on Lopez, and every household currently living there was already part of our community before moving in.
At the same time, the Lopez Food Center is preparing to build a space that will strengthen our island’s food system for generations to come.
Together, these projects represent something larger than buildings. They represent what is possible when a community comes together around a shared vision.
Looking Ahead
Village North was always envisioned as a phased project, with the potential to create additional affordable rentals in the future for Lopez Island.
Phase 1 demonstrated what is possible. Now, we are beginning the work of planning Phase 2.There is still much to do, but this community has already shown what can happen when people invest in one another.
We are grateful to every donor, volunteer, partner, and neighbor who helped make Phase 1 possible, and we look forward to sharing more about what comes next.
